We talk about his career that took him all over the world and about his experience going from enlisted to an Officer through the Green to Gold Program. Will shares about his two tours in Iraq and about the day he was wounded by shrapnel from a Explosively Formed Penetrator. Will talks about getting off the battlefield and about getting to the Green Zone after the attack to get treatment for his fellow wounded soldiers. Will shares about some of the struggles he had and what helped him after he came home. We talk about his role with Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 353 and what he is doing after retirement from the military.
This Episode features Matt McGuire. He served in the Army for 28 years from 1961 to 1990. He retired as a Colonel.
We talked about his family connection to the military and what led him to join.
Matt shares about his time as an enlisted solider serving as a Combat Engineer in Panama and what led him to apply to Officer Candidate School.
Matt explains how he got into flight school and about learning to fly helicopters.
Matt shares about his two tours of Vietnam and some of the hard decisions he had to make. During his two tours he would become a Purple Heart recipient, Bronze Star recipient, Distinguished Flying Cross recipient, and received the Vietnam Cross for Gallantry with two gold stars from the South Vietnamese military.
After finishing his second tour Matt talks about the rest of his career.
